Position Summary

Reporting to the Director of Employee Relations and Culture, the HR Compliance and Employee Relations Specialist has primary responsibility to provide support to ensure the University's compliance with employment laws, regulations, and policies, while also fostering positive employee relations across the campus community. The HR Compliance and Employee Relations will be responsible for processing employee relations documents, assist with providing guidance to supervisors and employees, and collaborate with the Director of Employee Relations and Culture in developing strategies to promote a harmonious work environment that upholds the University's values and principles.

Minimum Required Education and Experience

1 Year of Experience in Human Resources or related field.

Job Duties
  • Compliance Management:
  • Stay abreast of federal, state, and local employment laws, regulations, and policies to ensure the University's HR practices are in full compliance.
  • Conduct audits to assess compliance with internal policies and external regulations.
  • Coordinate the Preventing Discrimination and Harassment training program, ensuring accurate uploading of new learners and auditing of required completions.
  • Process all incoming inquiries for Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Accommodation requests, Family Medical Leave (FMLA) requests, and international scholars, faculty, administrators, and staff.
  • Advise faculty, staff, administrators, and international students regarding federal regulations, policies, and procedures related to immigration matters.
  • Review and evaluate information included on nonimmigrant petitions for the applicable statuses before their submission to USCIS for adjudication.
  • Act as liaison between academic unity and immigration counsel.
  • Employee Relations:
  • Serve as a trusted resource for employees and supervisors on a wide range of HR-related inquiries, conflicts, and concerns.
  • Assist in the processing of all reports, letters and correspondence regarding Employee Relations matters and investigations.
  • Assist in conducting exit interviews, summarizing findings, and discussing trends and concerns with the Director of Employee Relations and Culture.
  • Act as a neutral party through all aspects of investigation and ensures a prompt, fair and neutral process for all parties. Investigate all complaints of discrimination and/or harassment for the university community, including matters that fall under Title VII and the Title IX and Sexual Misconduct Policy.
  • Record Keeping and Reporting:
  • Maintain accurate and confidential employee records related to employee relations matters.
  • Prepare reports and metrics on compliance and employee relations activities, as required.
  • Employee Engagement and Retention:
  • Collaborate with HR and management to develop initiatives that enhance employee morale, engagement, and retention.
  • Identify trends or issues affecting employee satisfaction and recommend improvement strategies.
  • Performance Management Support:
  • Consult in the performance management process by providing guidance on performance evaluations, goal setting, and performance improvement plans.
  • Support managers in addressing performance-related challenges and implementing performance improvement strategies.
  • Policy Development and Training:
  • Collaborate with HR leadership to develop and implement employee relations policies and guidelines.
  • Conduct training sessions for employees and supervisors to promote understanding and compliance with HR policies.
  • Ensure that employees are aware of their rights and responsibilities within the University's policies and procedures.
