Position Summary

This position will have a dual report to the Global Education Center and the Elon University New York City Center. Responsibilities include serving as the primary contact and support person for students enrolled in the Study USA Elon in NYC program. This position will also support alumni events and Student Professional Development Center networking opportunities.

This is a 10-week position running from May 28-July 27, 2024, with the candidate living full-time in NYC May 27-July 31. Evening and weekend work required. Housing will be provided at the NYU dorms. You will have your own bedroom but will be sharing the common space with a non-Elon person. A NYC metro card will also be provided for the duration of the program. Mandatory training in Elon's Student Life policies and protocols will be provided prior to the program starts at the beginning of May.

Minimum Required Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree required by start of program.

Preferred Education and Experience

Required Experience
Residence Life and/or Student Life experience at the high school or college level. Must be responsible, proactive, forward-thinking, collaborative and organized. Should have a genuine interest in Residence Life and Student Life work.

Preferred Experience
Experience with experiential and cohorted learning models such as study abroad or youth camps or other student-focused advising experiences. Event planning experience, a data-driven mindset, and passion for building relationships is a plus. Someone who enjoys collaborative group work but can also work and stay focused independently. Prior experience with on-campus partners including academics and admissions, as well as off-campus partner organizations. Demonstrates an ability to think strategically, take initiative, and act collaboratively.

This is a 10 week position (May until July) Housing is included. Hours per week may vary according to demands.

Job Duties
  • STUDY USA
    • Serve as primary contact for student concerns and well-being for about 40 students enrolled in the Elon in NYC summer program.
    • Coordinate with the Office of Student Care and Outreach to address student care and conduct issues. Refer students to appropriate resources to manage health and wellbeing.
    • Provide crisis management and 24-hour on-call support in the case of emergencies, assisting faculty on the ground and escalating concerns to proper resources.
    • Communicate with providers and manage all logistical aspects of Elon in NYC programming and course-related excursions (ex: confirm reservations, coordinate travel, NYU on-site residential housing staff).
    • Communicate with students weekly through emails and GroupMe messages about the schedule of events including any changes and things they need to know beforehand i.e. bag policies.
    • Assist students with move in and move out.
    • Participate in on-the-ground orientation and course-related programming as needed.
    • Engage with the academic course material and attend weekly class sessions.
    • Maintain consistent communication with the Global Education Center and Director of Regional Centers through weekly check-ins, phone calls, and emails.
    • Communicate with the respective Elon internship director if a concern or issue arises with a student's internship.
    • Other duties as assigned.
  • NEW YORK CITY CENTER
    • In partnership with the Office of Alumni Engagement, help coordinate events for students and alumni. This work includes making arrangements and attending events such as Yankee Game outings, cooking classes, off Broadway plays and more.
    • Support student and alumni professional development by assisting with summer programming including College Coffees, networking opportunities, alumni socials, and other events as needed.
    • Keep track of all events with alumni and record the number and names of alumni that attended each event. Share with alumni@elon.edu at the end of the summer.
    • Other duties as assigned.
  • COMMUNICATIONS, MARKETING, & PUBLIC RELATIONS
    • Submit 3 articles on Today at Elon that highlight program activities, student internships, alumni events, class projects and other interesting aspects of the program.
    • Share videos and photos every two weeks with the Global Education Center to post on the elonglobal Instagram account to help promote Study USA and Elon in NYC. Posting on your LinkedIn account to promote the program, too, is encouraged.
    • Collect 5 quotes from students throughout the summer to be used in future Study USA marketing.
    • Add all videos, photos, and quotes to Elon in NYC GEC/RC Teams folder.
