Job Description:
  • Developing/expanding the RISE Program (an offshoot of the NOCCCD Rising Scholars Program/s, dedicated to supporting currently/formerly-incarcerated youth).
  • Recruiting interested youth.
  • Hosting focus groups w/ justice-involved youth.
  • Creating strong relationships w/ probation, local youth facilities.
  • Coordinating workshops, class offerings, certificate celebrations, campus tours, on-campus events/outings.
  • Leading and overseeing youth advisory board meetings.
  • Developing on-campus support for formerly-incarcerated youth.
  • Working to establish/grow relationships w/ youth-based community. organizations, ie: California Conservation Corps (CCC),Project Kinship, The Teen Project, Orangewood Foundation.
  • Working effectively w/ youth facilities (juvenile hall, Youth Guidance Center, Youth Leadership Academy), as well as up to 25 continuation/alternative schools.
  • Compiling/tracking youth data, submitting quarterly reports on grant expenditures and program accomplishments.


Primary Purpose:
The RISE (Rising to Excellence ) Program is a five-year, grant-funded program, and will consist of a strong, inter-district partnership between Fullerton College (FC), North Orange Continuing Education (NOCE), and Cypress College (CC). This program will consist of three stages: Plant, Grow, and Thrive. The RISE Program serves to support youth who are currently incarcerated in youth facilities located within San Bernadino County, as well as those youth who are exiting incarceration within North Orange County.

The Special Projects Director will be spending the majority of their time within San Bernadino youth facilities. Some percentage of their time will also be spent on each of the three campuses within the North Orange County Community College District: NOCE, Cypress College, Fullerton College.

Minimum Qualifications:
Lived experience.

Passion for working w/ youth impacted by the youth carceral system.

Community college system knowledge.

Program management/coordination experience.

Bachelor’s degree, preferably w/ social sciences focus.

The applicant must be able to demonstrate how their experience with these factors relates to successfully achieving the goals of the position.


Desirable Qualifications:
Master’s degree.

Experience working with youth impacted by the youth carceral system.

Experience collaborating with faculty, staff, and/or community leaders in programs and initiatives that are specifically designed to assist historically underrepresented students achieve their educational goals.
