Part-time Transfer Navigator at Patrick & Henry Community College
Longwood University, a public liberal arts institution located in Farmville, Virginia, invites applications for a part-time position as a Transfer Navigator for Patrick & Henry Community College (P&HCC) students who seek to continue their studies as part of Longwood's Early Childhood Education (ECE) program that is housed at the New College Institute (NCI) in Martinsville, VA (PW024 Education Support Specialist III).
The Transfer Navigator, who will be housed on the P&HCC campus in Martinsville, will facilitate the successful transfer of Associates' Degree students into Longwood's ECE baccalaureate degree program at NCI. The Navigator will assist Longwood's Admissions staff and Longwood program faculty with recruitment of ECE students, while also providing these students with "on-boarding" support with applications, FAFSA, and pursuing and evaluating options for financing their university studies. The Navigator will also fill an on-going advisory role for these Longwood students at NCI, including support with course sequencing, registration procedures and deadlines, as well as career planning. The Navigator will serve as the students' primary liaison to key offices on the Farmville campus, including the Registrar, Financial Aid, Student Success, Dean of Students, Career Services, and others.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties:
- Advise prospective, new, and continuing students on requirements and deadlines as they transfer from Associates' degree programs into Bachelors' degree programs in ECE at NCI
- Assist in recruiting students who express interest in ECE and other Longwood/ NCI programs from local high schools, staff at regional childcare facilities, and among currently undeclared students at P&HCC
- Collaborate with advisors from P&HCC and from other regional Virginia Community College (VCCS) institutions to identify and support prospective NCI students
- Assist students with onboarding and enrollment to Longwood, encouraging student self-advocacy and proactive planning
- Assist students with FAFSA and the pursuit of other options for financing college education through federal and state aid and scholarship
- Partner with Farmville-based university offices such as the Registrar, Financial Aid, Student Success, etc. to help assure high levels of student support
- Monitor and track student progress, assisting with overcoming students' barriers and celebrating success
- Connect VCCS students interested in other majors housed at NCI or on the Farmville campus to resources to support successful and seamless transfer, making appropriate referrals as necessary
- Organize and implement student communication initiatives, including web-based, e-mail, hard-copy materials, and presentations that integrate advising on the path from program application to completion
- Develop, implement, and assess programs and activities for cohorts participating in various stages of the process, enhancing the cohort experience at NCI
- Assist Longwood faculty and staff housed at NCI and on the home campus with aspects of program coordination including local clinical placements, connection to community resources, data collection, incentives, and awards
Requirements:
The ideal candidate will possess, or be in the process of attaining, a Bachelors degree or higher in a field related to education or counseling. Individuals with experience working in the Early Childhood field are encouraged to apply. Experience working with college students and/or other adults in mentoring or advisory capacity will also be favorably considered. The Navigator must be proficient in regular use of internet-based forms and applications and must represent Longwood University with a high level of professionalism in varied settings, maintaining appropriate student confidentiality at all times.
