Milk Truck Driver
Summary of the Job:
Primary responsibility is to pick up Milk on farm and transport in a manner that will optimize the cooperative's market share and savings, improve the cooperative's efficiency, help achieve the cooperative's mission and goals, and result in outstanding customer service.
The Milk truck driver's responsibilities involve delivery and pick-up, reporting, operations, service, safety and maintenance. The Milk truck driver will maintain a positive attitude and promote teamwork within the cooperative and a favorable image of the cooperative.
Required Qualifications, Experience & Knowledge:
(Minimum level of formal education required for competent performance of the technical duties; previous experience requirements; personal competencies & characteristics deemed necessary for success in the position:
1. Education and Previous Experience:
a. A minimum of a High School Education
2. Previous Experience:
a. A minimum of 2 yrs. driving experience b. Must have positive track record as a truck driver
3. Personal Competencies and Characteristics:
a. Customer service oriented with an ability to objectively problem solve, manage difficult customer situations b. Resourceful, self-starter who works well with minimal supervision; C. Ability to pro-actively identify areas for improvement d. Well-organized, with ability to adapt to change, and follows directives e. General understanding of basic mathematics, such as adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing and an ability to perform these operations using units of American money, weigh measurement, volume and distance; f. Strong Driving Skills g. Maintain MN Class B (preferred Class A) CDL Driver's License with tanker and air brakes endorsement and all certifications required
Essential Functions/Principal Accountabilities of the job:
1. Delivery and Pickup
a. Deliver milk and pick up milk from specified customer locations b. Develop and maintain an efficient routing system and expedite each route in a timely manner as directed. Plan to arrive at intake to minimize wait time C. Ensure bulk tank readings are accurately completed prior to loading d. Test for antibiotics as required before loading e. Bulk tank must be agitated for proper amount of time before taking milk sample f. Start bulk tank washer as directed by patron before leaving milk house if soap containers are filled by patron g. Develop and maintain an organized and efficient loading and unloading system h. Unload milk according to destination requirements i. Report to management On-Farm hazard and Safety concerns to either self or truck j. Jewelry will not be worn when driving milk truck
2. Submit daily route paperwork as required
a. Submit daily patron milk weights to office b. Fill out daily haul sheets and submit to office C. Inform your supervisor of discrepancies in your paperwork as soon as you are aware of them d. Monitor stick readings and scale weights to minimize long or short readings
3. Service
a. Greet customers promptly and courteously b. Work with patrons to resolve problems and report complaints to your supervisor C. Attend safety, Bio-Security and delivery related training d. Wear a clean uniform and be neat e. Lose no customers due to the quality of service provided f. Follow established Safety proto-call at all times
4. Safety and Maintenance
a. Use extreme caution while driving in farmers' yard, drive slowly and watch for children, pets, animals, toys, flower beds, hedges, and lawns b. Avoid damage to buildings or property when positioning for loading or unloading C. Avoid spilling of milk; clean up spillage that occurs d. Ensure milk house doors are closed when pickup is complete
Observe and report any unusual activity, problems, and farmers' complaints to your supervisor f. Personal Cell Phone use is not allowed while driving as mandated by MN state law. Discipline will be harsh and may include termination of employment. All company vehicles will operate with a hands free cell phone system (no exceptions) g. Coordinate with Safety Coordinator on all safety related issues
5. Follow regulations
a. Observe OSHA, state, and federal safety regulations b. Follow all company and regulatory agency safety policies C. Maintain valid milk hauling license and DOT requirements d. Follow all milk regulatory mandates
6. Operate delivery vehicle safely
a. Check lights and safety equipment daily b. Obey all traffic laws, including: -driving within posted speed limits -stopping and looking for traffic at all stop signs Drive defensively d. Report any unsafe equipment or working conditions to your supervisor e. Allow no riders who have not been approved by your supervisor
7. Maintain the delivery vehicle
a. Wash vehicle as weather and operating conditions permit to maintain a clean vehicle b. Follow the regular vehicle maintenance schedule provided by your supervisor c. Keep truck pre-post trip records/log on trucks as required by supervisor d. Report any needed repairs or special maintenance to the fleet manager immediately e. Pay attention to alignment and tire wear
8. Other Duties
a. Uphold all Cooperative policies b. Perform duties as requested by management C. Keep all conversations with patrons on a positive note-bear no false rumors d. Keep all personal accounts current

Frequent standing, walking, sitting, talking and hearing. Vision abilities required include close, distance and the ability to adjust focus. Working at this facility entails continuous exposure to dirt, dust, dampness, airborne particles, extreme weather conditions and temperatures, heavy equipment and moderate noise levels, and other attributes common to such sites. Will require ability to lift 50 lbs. and routinely do physical work
