Job Summary
Reporting to the Dean of Learning Commons, the Director of Library Services works in collaboration with library directors, library staff, faculty, and stakeholders across the College to lead and manage the library in alignment with the Learning Commons service model. This includes the development of partnerships, programs, services, policies, budget, and assessment so that it contributes successfully to the vision and mission of the library.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES*
Essential Performance Requirements
- Develops goals and mission of the libraries; works with other members of the libraries to meet the goals and missions of the libraries and the college
- Reviews, revises, and maintains appropriate guidelines and procedures to insure the efficient and effective operation of the libraries
- Plans, directs, and evaluates all aspects of the operation of the campus library in support of TCC's one college learning commons approach to student academic support services
- Develops, analyzes, and coordinates departmental budget estimates and controls expenditures to administer approved budget
- Contributes to the continued planning, development and continuous improvement of the library and learning commons services, technologies, and collections
- Keeps current on changing professional practices and advancements in the fields of libraries, student learning, and academic technology; participates in local, state, regional and national library and learning organizations
- Provides creative and effective leadership in building and maintaining community relations with a broad and diverse audience including faculty, staff, students, administrators, and the community to promote the learning commons and the college, and present a positive image of the college's libraries and academic support services
- Communicates with college constituents, community, and administration on library and learning commons issues
- Maintains the library environments; contributes to planning for new or renovated facilities
- Actively participates in college-wide conversation on student engagement and success
- Provides for the selection, training, and evaluation of library staff
- Monitors, assesses, and evaluates library services and operations; makes recommendations for improvement based on the review and tracking of system and process data
- Service Excellence
- Participates on behalf of the College in external community organizations and associations
- Attends the workplace regularly, reports to work punctually, and follows a work schedule to keep up with the demands of the worksite
- Completes all required training and professional development sessions sponsored through the Tarrant County College (TCC) Institute
- Supports the values of the College: diversity, teaching excellence, student success, innovation, and creativity and service to the College
- Supports the mission, values and 3 goals and 8 principles of the College
Works under the general supervision of the Dean of Learning Commons

Required Minimum Qualifications
REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Master's degree from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited program
- Five (5) years of demonstrated progressively responsible experience within a technology driven library or learning commons
- One (1) years' experience supervising (e.g., managing, evaluating the performance of others; leading projects or processes)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Post master's graduate education with emphasis on higher education or library services
- Experience working with higher education students and student services teams, demonstrating an understanding of and commitment to the community college philosophy
- Active participation in local, state, regional, or national library and learning organizations
- Experience applying academic technologies and re-imagined learning commons spaces and services to best support the teaching and learning process in physical and online classrooms
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Interpersonal communication skills to foster a work environment that encourage change and innovation productively, collegiality, cooperatively, and collaboratively
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills including the ability to analyze data, make recommendations and decisions consistent with policy, procedure, practice, and existing regulations, set goals, manage projects, and manage time effectively, with an overall results orientation
- Proficiency with automated library systems and word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software
- Ability to lead, motivate, and inspire others and delegate work appropriately to faculty and staff to meet College and campus deliverables

Work Environment
The work environment characteristics described here are representatives of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
