The Department of Sociology and Anthropology and the Department of World Languages and Cultures are dynamic environments that aim to provide UMKC students with education and experience to develop their critical-thinking, analytical, and communication skills.

Job Description

The Administrative Assistant provides general administrative and office support to multiple departments in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences including a variety of responsibilities such as assisting the Department Chair(s), student support, faculty support, and assisting with HR/financial support.

Key Responsibilities
  • Office Management which includes answering questions via phone, email and walk-ins; manage copy machine and printers throughout department; supply ordering; event coordination; building liaison; prepare department promotional materials.
  • Assist the Department Chair in support with day-to-day activities; help prepare reports for department requested by Dean's office and other administrative offices.
  • Support students by the student newsletter, course scheduling, website maintenance, catalog maintenance, scheduling appointments; questions and connecting students to campus resources.
  • Support faculty by research and teaching supply orders; reimbursement assistance; grant assistance; course material preparation; full-time hiring visit coordination.
  • Assist with Human Resources (HR) activities such as part-time hiring paperwork and coordination; supervise work study students; work with Human Resources Business Partner, as needed.
  • Financial activities such as assist department chair with budget management; onecards, eProcurement, and work with the Accounts Payable (APS) Shared Services Center and Fiscal Officer, as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent and at least 5 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Anticipated Hiring Range

$15.00 - $19.00 per hour commensurate with education, experience, and internal equity.
