Extension Program Assistant II

Tennessee Nutrition and Consumer Education Program

Pay Grade 34

Grant funded part time position and is contingent upon continued funding.




The Tennessee Nutrition and Consumer Education Program (TNCEP) Program Assistant II will work 30 hours a week and is responsible to the County Extension Director and works under the direction of the lead TNCEP County Extension Agent. This position will assist with education designed to reach limited resource individuals and families who are eligible to participate in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). Focus of education is to promote healthy food and physical activity choices and effective use of SNAP benefits. Continuation of this non-exempt year to year grant-funded position is contingent upon continued funding through the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the Tennessee Department of Human Services (TDHS).



Duties/Responsibilities:

· Provides leadership for a program of activities that meets the needs of all eligible clientele regardless of race, color, national origin, age, sex, disability, religion or veteran status.

· Teaches approved evidence based interventions as designed to eligible adult and youth audiences in classes, workshops, cooking schools, nutrition fairs, exhibits and similar nutrition education settings in the assigned county.

· Plans, prepares, sets up, and cleans up food, equipment, materials and other items used in program interventions. Maintains current inventory of equipment, materials, and supplies and communicates inventory and supply needs to lead TNCEP County Extension Agent.

· Works cooperatively with and participates in recruiting TNCEP eligible audiences, Extension personnel, TNCEP coalition members, volunteers and program partners.

· Assists with coalition activities, training volunteers and partners, and community activities that promote collaboration with obesity prevention efforts.

· Documents activities, evaluation results, and reports data as required and to stakeholders in a timely manner.

· Participates in county, regional, and statewide trainings relevant to responsibilities of the position.

· Assures program implementation, delivery and evaluation activities are in compliance with the grant guidance and established policies and procedures for the program and for Extension

All other duties related to TNCEP programming as assigned.


Qualifications :

Minimum/Required Qualifications (include education, experience, skills & abilities, licenses & certifications):

· High school degree or equivalent

· Two to three years of experience working with community audiences to provide educational programming.

· Knowledge and experience with the local community and the low income audience



Preferred/Desired Qualifications:



· Experience presenting food demonstrations to audiences is preferred.

· Preference given to individuals who are members of the community to be served;

· Skilled in using a series of hands-on, interactive lessons and committed to delivering sound evidence-based instruction

· Able to influence behaviors and impact the lives of those that are taught

· Dedicated to reaching diverse, low-income populations

· Able to recruit audience members and develop community partnerships;

· Ability to communicate effectively with peers, audiences, partners and Extension professionals.

· Excellent oral and written communication skills

· Ability to use Microsoft Office software programs for communication, reporting, and training
