Position Summary:

VCU's School of Medicine is seeking an HR professional to fill the role of HR Administrator (HRA) supporting a variety of units within the Department of Internal Medicine. The HR Administrator will work as part of a high functioning HR team to provide comprehensive human resources support and service to staff within the department. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the success of VCU's School of Medicine while advancing your HR career.

This position is eligible for a hybrid telework schedule following completion of several month onboarding period.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Oversees the day-to-day HR functions for the department, in a timely manner, addressing and resolving routine HR matters and escalating more complex and unprecedented matters to the HR Director
  • Act as a trusted resource for staff, providing guidance and support for HR-related inquires, conflict resolution and performance management
  • Collaborates with managers to initiate and complete recruitment and onboarding process
  • Applies knowledge of administrative policies and procedures, federal and state laws and policies, rules, regulations for Human Resources
  • Assist employee with benefit enrollment and inquiries, including health, retirement and other employee benefit programs
  • Provide guidance related to policies such as FMLA, overtime and leave administration. Stay current on benefit offerings and policy changes
  • Ensure compliance with university policies, state and federal employment laws and regulations.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential HR records, including personnel files and electronic records. Generate reports and analyze HR data to support decision-making
  • Work with senior HR team members to identify HR issues and support strategic solutions
  • Provide offboarding guidance and assistance and ensure team's completion of related activities
  • Co-facilitate trainings on new/existing HR policies and procedures
  • Collaborate with the Shared Services HR team on various HR projects, such as diversity and inclusion efforts, process improvements, etc.
  • Participate in the VCU HR community by attending HR Associate Committee meetings, career community events, and VCU HR training for HR Associates
  • The HR Administrator must possess strong consultative skills with a proven ability to develop relationships and build partnerships with internal teams and stakeholders in a diverse organization
  • Provides back-up support for the SOM HR team
Essential Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree and 3-5 years of progressive HR experience or equivalent combination of education, experience, and training
  • Experience working in fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU
  • Outstanding customer service skills and a high degree of professionalism
  • Knowledge of principles and procedures relation to multiple areas of HR, such as: benefits, compensation, employee relation, recruitment, HRIS
  • Sound knowledge and ability to perform multiple HR functions
  • Ability to synthesize information, provide advice, and address needs independently
  • Knowledge of federal, state, local, and University policies and regulations
  • Ability to conduct activities and make decisions according to ethical standards
  • Ability to analyze and present information and maintain accurate and detailed records.
  • Ability to manage multiple competing priorities and effectively prioritize assignments
  • Excellent oral and written communication in daily interactions
  • Proven ability to clearly articulate information and advise other professionals on policy and procedures
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information appropriately and with discretion
  • Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team, complete tasks without immediate supervision, and work with senior leaders to accomplish goals with the ability to lead and train
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field
  • Experienced using VCU HR/VCUHS systems, including, but not limited to: Banner, Cornerstone/Talent, eJobs, SWP, RealTime, Workday, etc.
  • HR experience in a higher education environment or medical academic environment
  • Experience in general management and supervision of professional staff
  • PHR/SPHR or SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP certification desired
