LIFEGUARD
Job Description: Lifeguards are responsible for ensuring the safety of patrons by preventing and responding to emergencies in and around the pool.
Location: Cary Street Gym & MCV Larrick Student Center
Supervisor: Mathew Scott
Starting Pay Rate: $13.00/hour (School Year), $15.00/hour (Summer only)
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
- Monitor activities of pool patrons and ensure a safe aquatic environment
- Understand and enforce all pool and facility policies and procedures
- Observe the conduct of patrons and communicate openly with patrons/staff in a friendly manner
- Recognize emergencies and respond effectively
- Inspect the facility on a daily basis and report any unsafe conditions or equipment
- Inspect pool deck throughout the day for cleanliness
- Arrive on time to all shifts; find a sub to work shift if a planned absence is necessary
- Have a flexible work schedule and provide up to date and accurate availability as requested
- Work at both the Cary Street Gym & MCV Larrick Center
- Test pool and spa water chemistry
- Count pool users and class participants
- Complete any Risk Management reports immediately
- Complete all cleaning duties as assigned
- Attend monthly in-service training and other meetings as required
- Work as a team with other lifeguards, aquatics staff and facilities staff.
- Additional duties as assigned by the Aquatics & Safety Coordinator or Program Assistants
- Ability to recognize and respond to emergencies and utilize proper technique
- Excellent customer service and communication skills
- Ability to make quick decisions in stressful situations
- Ability to follow instructions and complete tasks on time
- Maturity & professionalism
- American Red Cross Lifeguarding, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer & First Aid
- American Red Cross Administering Emergency Oxygen (must be obtained within 30 days of hire)
