Job Description Summary

Performs experiments in translational research projects in cardiovascular engineering and therapeutics. The project is focused on the development and testing of new clinical devices and therapy. The technician will be involved in setting up ex vivo bioreactors, tissue harvest, setting up and sterilizing pumps, tubing and connectors. The technician is expected to test new approaches, address technical problems, present results to the group, design follow-up experiments and maintain well-documented lab records. In addition, the technician will perform basic maintenance on laboratory equipment (cleans, disassembles, stores, replaces and orders parts). Will also organize and accurately maintain written records of experimental procedures and data collection.

Essential Functions:
  • Performs and designs research experiments.
  • Maintains accurate and complete records of research.
  • Prepares reagents for research.
  • Maintains a clean and safe work environment.
  • Participates in and presents data at weekly lab meetings.
  • Assists in preparation of manuscript.
Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Engineering, Biomedical, Health & Exercise, Physics or Biology.
  • Experience in working in a laboratory setting with experience with tissue culture.
  • Skills in the safe and accurate use of biological and chemical reagents.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and time management skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, the internet, and other relevant software.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information in a confidential manner.
  • Ability to organize workflow and coordinate activities.
  • Ability to maintain effective customer relations.
  • Ability to work in a group as part of a team.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision in experimental systems using the above knowledge and skills.
  • Physical Requirements: medium work; climbing, crouching, standing, walking, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing. Visual acuity to determine neatness and thoroughness of work assignments. Subject to both inside and outside activities.
